After the disaster that “After Earth” has been so far, it is no surprise that Will Smith is now contemplating giving up starring in blockbusters.
For years now, Smith has been one of the few go-to guys in Hollywood that are a guaranteed box-office draw, but after the failure that “After Earth” has been, Smith seems to be finally opening up his options. Smith tells Digital Spy:
“It’s been an absolute necessity that the movie be a blockbuster, but I think I’m going to start moving out of that and finding more danger in my artistic choices…There’s something about making movies that just really gets me excited. I love people being wrapped in a story and being able to deliver that emotional punch line at the end of the story.”
When asked what about the movie process scares him the most, Smith states: The movie opening at No. 2. Oh, I just gave myself a chill.”
Well, Smith probably went into shock when he saw the box-office results over the week and saw “After Earth” coming in at three. While it is nice to hear that Smith may venture out into more “artistic choices,” I do believe Smith will jump on board rumored sequels to “Hancock” and I, Robot” in a heartbeat.
Instead of making artistic choices, Smith should just choose to not star in movies with his son, Jaden, as I am certain the movie-viewing public has had enough of him.
Do you still see Smith as a box-office draw?
